For experts only, can a person be cleared to play a sport if thet have a heart murmur?

The problem is finding a cardiologist who will put him or herself on the line to say you are ok. Liability is a hugh issue so any little thing wrong is rough to clear. This has happened in my family. Have to just keep looking for a Dr. who is willing to take the risk. Good luck. For experts only, can a person be cleared to play a sport if thet have a heart murmur?
Evander Holyfield has a heart murmur and he was a 4 time world heavy weight champion and is still going strong!!!!!:-)For experts only, can a person be cleared to play a sport if thet have a heart murmur?
If its an innocent murmur a person can be cleared. You may want to have an echocardiogram done to confirm the findings
It depends on what type of heart murmur.

Some murmurs present as an abnormal sound when the doctor listens with the stethescope, but an EKG shows the heart is perfectly healthy and normal.

Some murmurs can result in shortness of breath and even heart attack.

And there's a range in between.

Here's a family physician's answer to that same question:

Sure, a lot of people have murmurs and dont even know it.
YES, The question is what is causing the heart murmur. Some murmurs are benign, while some are signs of significant problems. When in doubt a physician can get an echocardiogram that can be used definatively find the cause of the murmur.

A benign murmur should not limit your physical activity at all.
